P.S.

We are obviously only doing this on the the following basis:

1. That it's actually a girl.

2. That it doesn't come out looking startlingly like a Gertrude.

3. That the husband doesn't get his hands on the name papers before I do.

Ergo, it's for option purposes only.

Is it just me, or does Harriet Walmsley sound like a character from an Oscar Wilde play

yes, yes it does. mind you - so does gertrude walmsley. either way, she's had it. unless she's a boy. then either name will make it really interesting.

Go for a handle that'll make him/her a legend.

I read about a guy in the states named Sunshine Megatron.

No, seriously: check this out

Runners up:

Jack Bauer
Buck Bongo
Kashmir Kong
Tetris Crowley
Dexter St. Cool

Do I get a prize if you pick one of them?

andrew said to remind you that you have a great grandmother whose name is/was henrietta. she might take exception to not being invoked seeing as how harriet is in the vicinity.

Huh. Really? Is Henrietta better than Harriet to you think?

Unfortunately I had a vision as such at the OBs office yesterday along the lines of my 16 year old daughter being referred to as Harriet the Chariot. Make of that what you will.

Mind you, considering some of the options the husband was coming up with in complete seriousness when he got his hands on the name book in the waiting room, our kid will be voluntarily changing her (or his!)name to Harriet as soon as it can talk.

You did - but even now, it makes me laugh when I think about it. A guy came into the office the other day to have a signature witnessed for a change of name and that was the first thing that came to mind. Made me giggle all afternoon. Hehe. That one deserves to go down in history.
